First, let’s have a look at the different types of contacts that are meant to cater to every eye’s needs.

  • Bifocal contacts
  • Prosthetic contacts
  • Colored contacts
  • Toric contacts
  • Specialty contacts
  • Disposable contacts
  • Flexible wear contacts
  • Silicone hydrogel contacts
  • GP (Gas Permeable) or RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) contacts
  • Orthokeratology contacts
  • Monovision contacts
  • Special effect contacts and
  • Custom contacts
  • Spherical contacts

All these lenses are made for curing different eye problems. Such as, bifocal contacts are meant to cure presybopia which is a disease where the person loses the ability to see both far and near. These are a bit more complex in design than the normal contacts. Monovision contacts also fall into the same category.
Keratoconus is a disease of the eye that causes the cornea to take an abnormal shape. GP or RGP lenses have the ability to stop the cornea from taking unusual shape because of the material they are made of. People who cannot adjust to or feel uncomfortable with GP lenses have another choice named hybrid contactlenzen. Hybrid lenses have an RGP at the center and a soft ring around it. If the cornea takes an incredibly odd shape, GP or hybrid lenses may not be effective. Therefore, another type of remedial lens has been produced particularly for such cases called scleral contacts. They are also gas permeable lenses but are more effective than the regular RGP ones.
Toric contacts are remedial for astigmatism; where the cornea takes a symmetrical shape. These lenses can be of both types; soft or RGP. People with a high-level of astigmatism get to customize their toric Contact Lens according to their comfort and vision clarity.
Contact lenses can also be required after an eye surgery. Surgeries like LASIK cannot always fully remove the chance of re- occurrence of the eye disease and therefore, the need for remedial contacts still remain. For such cases, GP or hybrid contacts are the remedy.
Dry eyes are another problem that many people face. It is an ongoing problem that can happen due to many a reasons like a blustery atmosphere, dusty or polluted air, or the ageing process. People with dry eyes can opt for moist contact lenses made of silicone hydrogel.
