Faucets can be found in all types and styles, whether these are for your kitchen, bathroom of garage. You will find the standard chrome faucets with compression type valves and there are those with ball valves. They are available in most finishes like stainless steel and colored enamel finishes.

To get to know more about your faucet, I will discuss below the different elements of a faucet you can encounter whenever you attempt to dissect or repair your faucet.

The basic parts of a faucet are:

a) The tail piece:

b) The length between the tail pieces

c) The mounting nut that contains the faucet towards the sink

d) The supply tube for supplying water on the faucet

e) The shutoff valve to control the supply of water when repairs are needed

f) The aerator that manages mixing water appearing out of the spout with air to prevent splashes

g) The control valve (there are several control valves that will be discussed below)

There are some faucets with compression valves that separate the hot and the cold. A common difference between compression valves and everything other is that it sports a rubber washer at its base compressing against a valve, shutting over water.

Others faucets have ball-type valves and are normally found on single handle faucets. The ball valve behaves in the same way as a car stick shift using the left and right controlling the temperature as well as the front and back controlling the flow of the water.

Another kind of faucet are those that have cartridge type valves. They are available both in single and double handle styles. Double handle cartridge type faucets work very in the same way to compression valves except using the less extra pressure utilized when closing the valve. For single handle cartridge faucets, and also this resembles the ball-type valves apart from the flow is controlled by raising or lowering the handle.

These are generally basically the different elements of a faucet. Various other complicated faucets might have different parts however for by and large, you may encounter faucets of similar structure with the ones I've mentioned above.
