Author: Richard Pitt The earlier acronym “Groupe Spécial Mobile” gave birth to what we mean by GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) today. People, who have to travel all over the world have hugely benefitted from this type of cellular service.
GSM is a digital technology which uses TDMA technology where a narrow band or channel (30 kHz wide and 6.7 milliseconds long) is split into three time slots. The digital technology converts voice data into digital information and compresses it so that it can take less transmission space to travel. That is why, it is said that TDMA has much more capacity than an analog system (threefold).
The most common form of frequency band is 900MHz, used by most GSM networks across the globe; although there are other frequencies also, some higher than the level of 900 and some below the level. Such as the 850 MHz that is mostly available in rural areas but some cities also have a very good coverage of it.
The latest buzz in the GSM mobile phone industry is 3G or 3rd generation of wireless communication technology that promises to enhance and extend mobility. Lightening-speed internet and intranet access will become a cakewalk with the application of 3G. The 3G enabled phone of tomorrow will have the attributes of a laptop, a TV and of course, a mobile phone.
3G technology will benefit all those who take their work along with them. It will make work truly mobile with immense flexibility through high-speed internet connectivity on your GSM phone that you will be able to easily connect to and from anywhere, anytime, without any extra connection requirements. Think of the sheer convenience, you will be able to collect and present data on the very stage where you are giving a presentation to your clients or staff or associates. Emergency services like medical assistance can even be availed via a 3G enabled GSM cell phone. Almost all sectors are said to be benefitted from the 3G technology from banking to tourism to real estate construction.
If your work requires you to travel a lot, most of which are international trips, it is best to take up a global GSM SIM that lets you stay connected no matter where you go. It will not only provide good coverage in all countries, but also lets you make calls at lesser costs.
When you buy a GSM cell phone, make sure that:
The battery has the capability to be operated in all voltages from 110V-240V.
And
You should unlock to make it work with all networks and in any part of the world.
