Look for all these things while browsing various government auction sites. If their listings aren't complete, my advice would be to stay far, far away. Another thing to look for - is there a way to contact them? Do they have a phone number, an email, or an address? If you can't get in touch with them, don't bother.

Check to make sure that their listings cover not only local police auctions and sheriff auctions, but state, and federal as well. If the site doesn't list all these types of auctions, then that's a good sign that it's not a rip off or a scam. Consider carefully where your money goes, and research any site before you give money to them.
