When one of the architects in my company offers to customers that the elevator could be the answer to some questions in their new construction home, the reaction is often predictable: "lift?" It makes no sense, does not it? "Are not they very expensive?

Residential elevators are in the homes of more than you think - and not always extravagant, but often as a practical and cost of design. With age, the American homeowners, they become interested in their ability to remain in their homes. They would also like to dwell on the golden years, but most of the residential elevators all the families of the bedrooms on the second floor, including the apartment owner. At sixteen years or more steps between the first and second floors, stairs can quickly become difficult (and often dangerous) obstacle for adult homeowners. This is the main reason why empty nesters move to one level homes.

But while one level design home more easily adapt to changing family structures, single level home is more expensive to build. He may have nearly twice the foundation and roof area comparable two-story house without any additional space, adding significantly to the cost of the house. And so most families build a two-story, when they are young and move to a single-level home later in life.

It is cheaper to build a two-story house, but the difference between the two-story and single level sufficient to offset the cost of the elevator?
