Plastic Surgery is a life changing decision. A permanent change to your appearance should be carefully weighed and proper time should be given in order to make the right choice. For most patients who elect to have cosmetic surgery performed, self consciousness and low self-esteem are a problem. Surgery is a way to escape those feelings and emerge with a new outlook on life. Though sometimes emerging with a new outlook on life is an unrealistic expectation, emerging from surgery with more self confidence and a body the patient can take pride in is well worth the pain and cost of the procedure. There are few procedures that can change the appearance as effectively and dramatically as rhinoplasty and post bariatric lifts.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in the year 2008 152,434 rhinoplasty procedures where performed. It is the fourth most popular cosmetic procedure and one of the most effective appearance enhancing surgical procedures available. Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that changes the size, shape, length and/or width of the nose and is sometimes used to improve the function of the nose.

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia. In a closed rhinoplasty, any incisions are made inside the nose. In an open procedure, an additional incision is made in the skin that separates the nostrils. The bone and cartilage are restructured or reshaped and the incision is closed. Recovery time can take as much as six weeks.

A post bariatric lift is a complex procedure where incisions are made all the way around the midsection. Excess skin is then removed, resulting in the tightening and firming of the waist, stomach, hips, buttocks and thighs.

Most patients who get a post bariatric lift have lost significant amounts of weight and are now at a stable weight. The best candidates are those who are healthy and have chosen a healthy lifestyle. Smokers and those whose weight balloons and retracts are discouraged from having this type of surgery done. The effects of surgery, including numbness in the abdominal area, can last up to six month or longer.
