In the real world, everyone needs to manage their life. We all have 24 hours a day to get the things we need to do done. Some people manage their time and effort better than others.
When we work with other people, we need to coordinate our time and effort with other peoples’ time and effort. The better the coordination, the faster work flows and the less personal interruptions are experienced.
The way we manage our time and effort personally and with other people comes naturally. When we are not at work we usually use natural methods that suit us, but at work many of these methods are constrained by accepted work management methods.
Over the years managers have played a central role in the management of work. Without a manager or someone acting as a manager, people doing the work find it extremely difficult to keep the work organized and coordinated.
Without reasonable organization and coordination, the work may still get done. However it takes longer to do, because a lot of time and effort is wasted and many people become frustrated with obvious inefficiencies and inability to work how they would like to naturally work.
There is a considerable body of knowledge on the art and science of management. However the majority of management methods and tools were developed long before the current information and connectivity technologies were available.
Now that information and connectivity technologies are becoming available to many people, it is time to see if management methods can be more aligned with natural management. Up to this point, managers have largely automated manual methods using existing paradigms.
In simple terms, management is centralized around managers and each individual manages themselves to get the work managers say needs to be done. Most interactions are based on verbal or written communications, so they can be slow and are open to different interpretations. Technology helps, but it is largely automating manual methods.
The big question is “Can technology be used to simplify work management, so we can all work together more naturally?” This will significantly enhance both work management and personal time management.
TASKey has developed methods and web software tools to make it easy for people to work together naturally to get work done. Many of the processes that underpin the functions of management have been automated, so people can work more naturally.
In particular, the level of detail and complexity that is managed by the web software is well beyond what can be achieved by people without technology. By knowing in close to real time, what is happening and what each person needs to, with who and when; everyone can make better decisions and experience less stress.
While software can assist in making the application of the functions of management more natural, the ability to access the software at a time and place that matches a person’s desired workflow is an essential element of natural management. TASKey has found that providing the ability to access the software from both a web browser and a mobile device provides a lot of the flexibility required for natural management.
The answer to the big question “Can technology be used to simplify work management, so we can all work together more naturally?” is yes, provided we have technology to sort out the detail for us. Visit http://www.me2team.com and http://www.taskey.com for more information.
