Bookmarks are now one of the most used and most appreciated promotional tool in the market. It is now being used to reach out to a big market at half the cost of other marketing materials.

These marketing materials are both practical and very useful and are a great gift for book readers and other customers that you have. They are very effective for businesses especially those that gets business from books and bookstores. They can be found in wide array of sizes and shapes and are made from different kinds of materials. There is no limit when it comes to ideas in bookmark designs.

But before you embark on your campaign, you need to plan your strategy carefully. It may seem simple to print, hand it out to your prospects, and expect people to come to you. That could work if you are selling water purifiers in a town with no potable source water, but if you were selling fans or vacuum cleaners, which people do not need to buy everyday, this is not enough to entice people to check you out. Therefore, before you print your bookmark, here are some things you need to think about:

• Determine your objective. What is its purpose? Is it to build your brand or boost your PR campaign? These two purposes need to be approached differently in the bookmark. A PR bookmark does not need to sell. It simply needs to bring out emotions and feelings. Branding bookmark, on the other hand, has to encourage reaction from people. Once you are able to identify its purpose, then you can do on with its design.

• Keep everything brief. Keep in mind that people will not actually look at it when reading, so keep your message short and clear. A short, strong headline will easily catch attention and work better in creating long-term impact to readers.

• Keep it simple. Next to keeping things brief, you need to keep your design simple and organized. Nothing can discourage people more than a messy design. So, stay away from elaborate design. Just give your message straight and simple.

• Make these more than just a bookmark. Aside from putting your marketing message, why not use it to encourage people to contact you. For instance, you can include discounts and incentives in it. Tell your customers to bring it with them when they visit your store to get a discount. Be sure to include a time limit to encourage immediate response. You can also consider printing a calendar and other information of interest to your target market. This would make such unique and increase its chance of achieving success.

• Give your them to the right people. Do not market to everyone. That is the simple most destructive mistake that you can make to your business. Choose your prospects carefully and research about them. Where do they go often? If you research this information well, you will effectively deliver them to the right audience. This in turn will ensure you do not waste time, money, and effort in your campaign.

Though often overlooked, bookmark printing can be an exceptionally effective marketing tool that can let you connect with your target customers on a more personal level, something that surely your competitors are not able to achieve.
