You have just taken delivery of your new scaffold tower, and unless you have been properly trained you need to know how to build it safely. You should of course received have the manufactures instructions on how to safely erect your scaffold tower, most of which are easy to follow and very thorough. But, if you are a commercial operator many sites and companies may insist that you are trained as a competent person to erect scaffold towers and there are several training courses available. The industry recognised one being PASMA. (Prefabricated aluminium scaffolding manufacturers association). To comply with Work at Height regulations the two HSE accepted methods of erecting and dismantling scaffold towers are 3T (Through the trapdoor) and the Advanced Guardrail Method. To get started you need the instruction manual, then layout and identify all the scaffold components, ensuring you have the correct components to build to the required height. Then follow the step by step stages of assembly. The most widely used is the 3T method. This requires positioning of trapdoor platforms at every 2m using 2, 3 or 4 rung frames in the base dependent upon the overall height. This enables you to climb through the trapdoor and sit on the platform to complete guard railing at every stage of erection. This means you are always fully protected. The Advanced Guardrail method is similar but requires additional side guardrail components. Always refer to the manufacturers user guide at every stage.
