A common mantra used to explain Windows NTFS permissions is "If access is denied MCSE 2003, it doesn't matter whether another permission allows access because the user will be denied access." Permissions are assigned explicitly on the file. The Allow Read permission is assigned to the Accountants group, and the Deny Read permission is assigned to John Smith. When John, a member of the Accountants group, attempts to read the file, will he be able to? The permissions are sorted in the following order: 2.Inherited Deny permissions: Deny John Smith Read 3.Inherited Allow permissions: Allow Accountants Read Because the Accounts group Allow Read permission is the first permission in the list, John will be given permission to read the file. If we return to the mantra, "If access is denied, it doesn't matter whether another permission allows access because the user will be denied access." You can see that it is wrong.
