This may sound odd, but the healthcare delivery system is a place where not all members of the community are familiar with. If that’s the case, the rights and privileges of those who are unaware of how the healthcare system works will just go in vain, because the fact is, the healthcare delivery system offers a wide array of healthcare services like health promotion, medical advice and support, health referrals, and health insurance especially to those who are in need of it most. This a major advantage to those few who are adept with the system, but how about those who not? Will they be left unaided? What about their rights to receive quality care? A health advocate is somebody whom you can turn to in times of difficulties. A health advocate provides unequivocal healthcare service to an individual or family especially to those who are in most need of access to healthcare. An advocate of health is somebody who is inclined to the promotion of health of the larger public or community. Health advocates provide the public with support and guidance to the perplexing maze of healthcare system as well as promote the rights of the patients to receive competent, safe and improved healthcare inspite of their economic status. A health advocate should not be mistakenly interchanged with patient advocate, where a patient advocate is somebody who works on behalf of the patient, a health advocate works to provide the community access to the system or make the system understandable to the public. Advocates of health are found working in almost every aspect of the health care delivery system. They can be in the hospitals acting as a link between the hospital and the members of the community, especially those who are of low socio-economic status. They could also be in an insurance company. And some maybe found in private companies like CareNet. CareNet is an advocate of health in private practice that serves their members and clients in the community by guiding them through the labyrinth of today’s healthcare system. The health advocates at CareNet also provide assistance to health insurance and pressing issues regarding healthcare availability and access.
