Free money…The government is hoping to "jump start" the economy by providing consumers with a tax rebate check. The checks should provide $600 per single filer and $1200 for married filers, with an extra $300 per child. And the cost to make sure we all get $600 is…$150 billion.

Here today and gone tomorrow…I'm sure everyone has heard the old saying, "If you give a man a fish he eats for a day, but if you teach him to fish he'll never go hungry." The government is hoping that you'll take that $600 and spend it to boost retail sales. They don't want you to save it, or apply it to bills, which most of us will be doing. Essentially they're giving us money that's ours to begin with and trying to dictate how we should spend it!

It's going to cost how much? What concerns the IRS-Hitman is the $150 billion price tag. That's a very high price tag to make sure everyone gets an extra $600.

Couldn't that money be better spent on civil projects like improving schools, or the infrastructure…any kind of project that would create much needed jobs for the many construction contractors who are in financial difficulty right now.

Not to mention that if the money were to go to some kind of civil works project then corporations would get involved adding capital to increase funding and provide even more jobs that will give the workers more than a one time amount that doesn't even equal a weeks worth of pay.

The big picture…Don't be dazzled by short term solutions to long term problems. Houses are getting foreclosed on at an astonishing rate; more and more people are filing bankruptcy and getting into serious debt.

Just consider this: when faced with an upcoming economic recession, $600 each is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of debt that most Americans owe.

And that's my smoking gun!
