You do not want to give away marketing materials that have mistakes right? Therefore, a good practice in direct mailing is to check your marketing materials several times.

Do not only check for spelling and grammar errors. Check the layout, the images and even check the details about your contact information. Check all of these several times using several people. This should make sure that no errors are passed on for distribution.

Do not just send those materials blindly to addresses that will not even care what your materials say. Research the demographics of an area, particularly the social class, ethnicity and culture. Identify the ones who would be most receptive to your marketing messages and send to them your marketing materials. If you do your homework right every time, you will achieve success every time as well.

3. Use the precise medium for the right job â€" It is also a good idea to mix and match things and use the precise and proper medium for the right marketing job. For example, you do not send marketing postcards if you are promoting many products and services, you can send a catalog for that. If you are highlighting one particular product, service or location then a postcard is more appropriate. By using the right medium for the right job, you get the best chances of success.

4. Use the best paper materials when possible â€" Finally, direct mail marketing usually needs tough marketing materials. That is why it is always a must to use the best paper materials. Therefore, it is good practice to always use thick paper materials with your marketing media and add protective coatings in them for moisture and dirt resistance. This should prolong the life of your printed media and prolong your marketing potential as well.
