Author: Razor I know it might be a simple thing to alot of the more experienced Web Masters but if you’re new to all this I’m sure your head is aching from trying to learn how to put your site together much less learn what all the jargon means and how to apply it all. Well here’s another one for you. I know I always wondered how they got those little icons on the tabs for their web pages and made them appear next to the site name in my browser favorites. Well they’re called “favicons” and they are really an icon with an .ico extension. There are several sites that offer free ones or you can have one made (for a small fee).
First you rename the image file “favicon.ico” and place it in your site’s image folder. Then open up your index.html (or index.php, index.asp, etc.) and place the following in between the head tags.
Save your file and upload it to your site and make sure you upload the favicon.ico file and place it in your image folder. It might take a few minutes but if you’ve done everything right you should see your icon appear on the IE tab above your site page.
