Stratford is located in the north western tip of the London Borough of Newham and borders Hackney Wick to the west and Bow which is in London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Both of Stratford's shopping centres, The Stratford Centre and the recently opened Westfield Stratford City are located on either side of Stratford station.

Westfield Stratford City, is home to 300 stores including John Lewis, Waitrose and Marks and Spencer and is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe. Royal Mail has given the postcode E20 to both the Olympic Park and Stratford City developments.

Stratford is served by British Rail, London Underground and DLR services, making it a popular commuter town for city and Canary Wharf workers.
