They are rarely seen by guests, and therefore treated as locations that do not need to serve any sort of aesthetic function. While that can be all well and good, a problem may arise when closet space becomes so cluttered that it is no longer useful. This is undoubtedly a problem in bedrooms across the world, where shoes, clothes, accessories and many other assorted objects often take up more space than originally anticipated.
The bedroom closet is not the only one that struggles to stay clean. Pantries are often ground zero for kitchen organization nightmares, holding many inherent problems when it comes to storing food. Broom closets can also offer a substantial problem, holding items that are often challenging to store. All of these trouble spots can be solved, and there are many products available to alleviate those organizational nightmares that haunt homeowners.
Getting the bedroom closet organized well is often blockaded by the issue of being willing to throw things away. Clothes that have not been worn in over a year can be donated to charity. Clothes that are worn rarely, or are seasonal in nature, could easily be stored in a bureau or plastic storage bin under the bed.
Once clothes have been sorted out, shoes come into play. Storing shoes, however, is easier than it seems. Try purchasing an over the door shoe holder. With convenient pockets to hold shoes, and keep them out of the way, this device can handily store many pairs of footwear. If you have a lot of shoes, try purchasing an under the bed shoe organizer. This device packs all of your shoes safely and visibly away in a compact form that allows you to slide them out of sight. This is especially handy if you have many pairs of shoes that you only wear rarely, but still need. With good use of storage products, and willingness to throw some things away, the bedroom closet can be a breeze.
Pantries are often a disaster area, especially if you are not somebody who spends a great deal of time in the kitchen. There are a few general rules that can help you govern your pantry well. Try sorting foods by type. Put all breakfast foods together on one shelf, lunch foods on another and dinner on a third. Then provide a shelf entirely for baking supplies, add another shelf for drink mixes and one for snack foods and you will be all set. Once this has been completed, look at the shelves themselves. Are some much more cluttered than others? If so, divide that shelf into two. Separating canned goods from other foods, regardless of meal type is a good way to use any extra space as well.
You should also store foods that expire soonest at the front. If your pantry holds your spices, and they never seem to be in order, try purchasing a folding spice drawer. This device holds all of your spices until you need them. Special storage racks for spices, as well as canned goods, are readily available. If plastic bags, plastic wrap, wax paper and other assorted items take up space in your pantry, then purchase a few handy holders for them that hang from the door, or the bottom of a shelf. They will then be accessible, but out of the way. Organizing your pantry is very doable, and with a little work, you will have a well run kitchen again.
The broom closet can be an entirely different monster. Nobody seems to worry about organizing the materials that are often used for cleaning. A messy broom closet can make finding the right chemicals difficult, can damage mops and brooms, and will make every chore a hassle. To store brooms and mops, try using a pegboard. Most of these items have a small hole in the top so that they can hang up, and if they do not, lay them across two even pegs. Be sure to store your sponge mops with the tops up, this keeps them from being damaged and helps them dry out properly.
Store cleaning chemicals based on use. Put strictly bathroom cleaners in one place, polish, dust and window related items in another, and the handy all-in-one-cleaner in the middle. This helps to avoid confusion, and makes everything easy to find. Using rules of pantry storage for trash bag boxes and other such containers can help remove clutter from your shelves, and in no time, your broom closet will be running efficiently.
The bedroom closet, pantry and broom closet are three of the more challenging places to organize in any home. However, a few solid rules of thumb, and the right organizational products can really keep each of these spaces away from clutter. Working hard to keep the entire home clean will help remove the need for any drastic cleaning projects, and will keep you sane in the meantime.
