Anyone who has ever done work in a lab will know that they can be messy places, but messy and successful science mix as well as oil and water. School science needs abundant pipettes, test tubes, test tube holders, test tube racks, bunsen burners, tongs, the list is endless. You can't just shove all that stuff in a cupboard and be done with it, it will break, and nobody wants to send the kids home with fingers all cut up on test tube shards. The days of dissecting frogs in the classroom are well gone, but you do not want high school science to be all books and blackboards (if there are any blackboards left). So you need a method of storage that suits your purpose.

Gratnells storage units might be the answer. They are plastic drawers in a metal housing unit. the drawers come in different sizes and the metal casing is adjustable to any combination of drawers sizes. Gratnells storage units have been specifically designed for scientific use. Your unit can be fixed or mobile on stainless steel castors, and are common in labs and hospitals all over the world. Once you have graduated from high school science, you find that university science is similar but different. Similar because the labs are still a mess, but the equipment has changed, out go the bubbling, colour changing test tubes and in come the micropipettes, 96 well plates and Eppendorf tubes. Suddenly the equipment has got a whole lot smaller and easier to lose.

If universities did not have Gratnells storage units there would be a lot more science degree failures. The lab technician can keep some control by keeping the students out of his drawers by pre-preparing trays with the tools necessary for each experiment. Then he can lock his precious equipment up, since Gratnells storage units can have a lockable door in front of the drawers or can have a lockable bar that covers the front, so that light fingered students can't pinch things for art projects. Not all students are pilferers, but random cleptomania among students is a well known phenomenon. Spoons anyone? Fancy a traffic cone?

Now another place you do not want unsecured items is in the hospital. These lockable and portable Gratnells storage boxes units are a blessing for doing the drug dosing rounds. You do not want visiting children eating pretty, brightly coloured pills, or drug addicts finding the valium meant for the unfortunate patient with tetanus. Gratnells units can be cleaned easily, which is another major benefit for hospitals. This is aided by their plastic construction, which resists all kinds of chemicals such as cleaning agents. Plastic is also light, which means that the mobile units can be moved easily, even if they are full to the brim. Also, if anyone bumps into a Gratnells unit, the plastic will not do too much damage as it is a relatively soft and bendable material.
