Author: Sameer There are many different types of Scaffold tower platform available and most are designed to offer the best functionality for their purpose and usage.
Steel Scaffolding
When choosing a scaffold tower we need to clearly understand the purpose for which it is mostly to be used.
Steel scaffolding towers are fine for occasional use, but they are heavy and therefore not easy to erect and handle. Of course, steel scaffolding is considerably cheaper than aluminium, but for professional use, the extra time required to move, erect and dismantle steel towers often outweighs the initial cost saving.
Aluminium scaffold
Aluminium scaffold towers are now the most commonly used form of access equipment and are available in a vast array of sizes and specifications. Before choosing an aluminium scaffold tower it is important to understand the height and base dimension required to achieve the maximum utilisation from the components incorporated in each configuration. For example, will a double width tower fit into most of the applications required or would a single width be more practical. When considering height requirements, various height towers offer a different mix of frame sizes, again for example, most 4.2m platform height towers come with 4 x 2m frames, but a 4.7m tower offers the additional flexibility of 2 x 1.5m frames, thereby increasing the height options available and offering greater flexibility.
Fibreglass Scaffold Towers
GRP or fibreglass scaffold towers are also available from certain manufacturers and are designed to be used wherever there is a risk of combustion or contact with electricity. Because Fibreglass is a non conductive material it is ideal for use in applications where contact with power cables could potentially be a risk, also being non-conductive, GRP also eliminates any risk of electrostatic discharge thus making it ideal for use in areas where risk of combustion could occur.
GRP towers are also clean, they can be easily sterilised and are lightweight making them ideal for areas such as food processing, hospitals or computer rooms
UK and EU Standards
Quality is also an important factor in choosing a tower system as some aluminium scaffold towers, mostly from the Far East do not meet UK or EU approval, so care should be taken in to ensure the product conforms to any relevant standards. Price alone should not be considered as a deciding factor.
RK Access supplies the complete range of Youngman Boss Towers, Boss Evolution, Boss Clima, Minimax, and Boss Zone 1 GRP, at fantastic value for money prices. All components are available separately as well as specialist components to overcome the most awkward access situations safely.
