Far too many UK car owners are paying more than they need to for warranty deals. Some industry analysts estimate that you could save up to 40% by shopping around online to secure the best possible deal.

Why aren't more of us using the internet to save money in this way? There are numerous reasons, ranging from lack of knowledge to the perceived ease of other options.

Let's take a look at some of the problems that have been holding people back.

Lack of awareness of the options available is a key issue. Car retailers have long dominated the warranty market, with many consumers assuming that such retailers are the only places where they can purchase extended warranty policies.

With such a situation having arisen, it's not surprising that many drivers have been unaware of other options and would not have known how to start looking for a better deal.

The internet is now helping to provide real solutions. It's allowing warranty companies to make direct contact with customers, cutting out the middlemen and hence reducing policy prices.
