Author: Priyanka Verma According to sources, the boy, a resident of Delhi's northeast district of Hardevpuri, was admitted to the neurosurgical department for a brain tumor operation on Jan. 18.
The surgical procedure was subsequently performed on Jan. 20 after which the boy was kept under observation at the acclaimed medical institute.
But, shockingly, the patient was sexually harassed by a junior doctor in the neurosurgery department on Jan. 23, a day before his discharge.
Boy sexually abused by resident doctor
The petrified boy kept mum but confessed to his parents about the ordeal after being discharged on Saturday.
According to the boy, the junior resident took him to the doctor's duty room late at night and asked him to remove his clothes.
The doctor then allegedly touched the child's private parts and sodomised him. He later threatened to detain him in the hospital, if the boy breathed a word to anyone.
The victim's father stated, "My son was taken from the ICU to the duty room around 10.30pm on January 23 while he was still admitted in the hospital. After he was harassed, he was threatened by the doctor not to tell anyone or he would not be discharged from hospital.
"My son, who was very scared, kept quiet until he was discharged on January 24 morning and told us afterwards.
"It was only then that we approached the police at the hospital who directed us to the medical superintendent where we gave a written complaint at 4.40pm.
"We were called by the committee of three doctors on January 28 and my son was questioned about the incident and asked to draw some things as well. However no physical medical test was conducted. We are planning to lodge a police complaint on Monday."
Fact finding committee set up
Following the official complaint made to the hospital authorities by the boys' family, the AIIMS administration has set up a committee headed by senior doctor A C Amini and ordered an internal enquiry into the allegations.
The committee has started questioning doctors, nurses, and other staff on duty. The institute has promised strict action against the doctor if he is found guilty.
"Preliminary fact finding committee has been setup after complaint has been received and all the staff of the ICU have been questioned. The report is expected to be submitted on February 1.
"Strictest possible action will be taken against the guilty. We will not take Doctor's name, till it is proven," said AIIMS official Dr YK Gupta.
