Partial knee replacement is a common thing to go by, given the fact that the knee replacement process is on the rise in the recent times. This partial replacement of the knee is also referred to as knee arthroplasty. This surgery is considered helpful for treating those people who are suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee joint. Generally speaking, patients usually go through the total knee replacement surgery in case of severe arthritis affecting the knee joint. In case of total knee replacement, all the cartilage is removed from the knee joint, and this is substituted by a plastic and metal implant. This partial replacement process is gaining in terms of popularity and significance as this process generally takes lesser time to recover for the patient when compared to the total replacement process.

This partial replacement process also entails smaller cut. This process is also referred to as minimally invasive knee surgery or unicompartmental knee replacement. This process of replacing an arthritis affected knee is helpful in removing the most damaged parts of the cartilage, after which those damaged surfaces are replaced. However, please know that this process cannot be applied on any and everyone. This minimally invasive knee replacement process is generally helpful for those patients who are suffering from very acute arthritis of the knee, and the knee has not been receptive to conservative treatments of arthritis. If these conservative methods have not been effective on the affected knee, then one can consider the various surgical methods, including the partial replacement process. The partial replacement process can be carried out if only a specific area of the knee is affected by arthritis.
